WHITE SANDS NATIONAL MONUMENT

Near Alamogordo, NM, is an area called White Sands National Monument. The visitors center has a short film to watch that's interesting, but when you drive out into the white gypsum, it looks just like snow. It's amazing that plants can survive and keep growing out of the drifts. With time, the animals turn white for protection. It was very windy and you could see the waves as it drifted. They have an area set aside to go sledding, and there were many people doing it. It works, but not as fast as snow!
