We've had a lovely week at one of Iowa's prettiest small towns-Clear Lake. It has a park and several neat stores downtown and beautiful houses surrounding the lake. There seemed to be more flowers than usual, and they were lovely. It's also the home of the Surf, where Buddy Holly had just played, before he was killed in an airplane crash in a nearby field.
We were blessed with good weather and our campsite at the state park overlooked the lake and had a perfect view of the awesome sunsets.
Our spot had a large grassy area on the lake side, which came in handy for the weekend when we hosted 32 of Don's immediate family for Mulertfest. These are the Great Grandchildren with Great Grandma.
It began with a picnic on Friday evening and Saturday we went to the craft show in the park downtown. Some of the men went to Batman, Kathy and Jodie took Grandma to the Garner quilt shop, and the rest went swimming.
We ended the day with games, lots of chatter, a pizza party, and s'mores on the campfire.
Sunday morning we got Russ and his family on their way and then went over to the motel for breakfast with Scott and other family. After church, everyone headed home. We enjoyed our boys and their families along with extended family. We were impressed with the excellent behavior of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, our granddogs, and even brother Marvin!
Anna, being the youngest was a delight! For those of you who didn't attend, be sure to ask Nick about Alaska!
After everyone left, we had a ten minute warning to get the awning down, and chairs, grill, sign and flowers away, before a strong storm came through.
Yesterday we moved on to Dubuque for minor repairs to the RV, and to have the carpet cleaned. This weekend is my family reunion, so will have a few days to enjoy our native city.
