NORMAN ROCKWELL MUSEUM

We took a trip south to Stockbridge, MA, and toured the Norman Rockwell Museum. His house is on the grounds, along with his studio and the museum. They don't allow pictures inside the buildings, which makes sense, with the oil paintings-damage would be done. An older black gentleman was giving a tour, and stopped in front of one of the paintings. He pointed out one of the little boys in the painting, and then explained that it was him. The young girl beside him in the picture, is his aunt, who happened to take our money when we entered. Earlier, we met a lady who, as a child, was in one of the 4 Freedoms paintings-Freedom From Fear. Her parents are in Freedom From Want. We knew that Norman used friends and family from Stockbridge as models for his paintings, but we never thought we'd meet some of them! We saw the covers from all the Saturday Evening Post magazines, and many original paintings. One room, was full of portraits of several of the Presidents and other prominent Americans. The details and likenesses were amazing!

His studio and the view behind it and the house.
