MISSISSIPPI RIVER MUSEUM

One of our favorite spots in Dubuque is the Mississippi River Museum. The reason we were there this time, is because they have an exhibit about the immigrants from Luxembourg that settled in the US.

Since we were in Luxembourg in April researching Toni's immigrant ancestors ,we figured we should check this exhibit out. Some other persons of interest with Luxembourg heritage are Hall of Fame baseball player Red Faber from Cascade, IA, tennis star Chris Evert, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Dennis Hastert.

One reason that Toni especially likes the museum, is that her great uncle Fred Woodward and his family, were major benefactors, and consequently parts of it are named after the family. Toni's grandfather was Fred's brother.
One of the exhibits is a simulator for driving a tow boat and barges through the lock and dam and up the river.
Besides the aquariums and exhibits inside, it also includes wetlands and a boat to tour outside. If you've never been to the museum, it is well worth the time and money to go. It is very easy to spend at least a half a day there.

Very cool post. I'm sure you enjoyed it even since your return from Luxembourg. Also got our reservations squared away for the weekend of the 15th. Can't wait to hear more stories around the campfire. Hopefully Pat will be done with the shingling by then.
