BUSY, BUSY

We've been pretty busy lately. We were in Omaha for our grandson's graduations-first, Joe from 6th grade. They were all pretty excited and got to walk down the hall of the school between the other students, clapping for them.

Then they went outside and left their balloons loose. (The fire engine is behind him because one of the fireman has a child graduating, but was on duty.)

Here's our Joe!

DURTY GURT'S

We took a day trip to Galena, IL, when we were in Dubuque, one of our longtime favorite towns. This time, we found a great place for lunch-Durty Gurt's Burger Joynt.
If they're busy and you have to wait, they provide "stools" for you to sit on .

There are cute signs everywhere.
I had a delicious burger and sweet potato fries.

Don had a huge hot dog.

It was a neat place with delicious food-try it, you'll like it!

MY BABY BLOOMED!!!

Well, I'm still having trouble, but I'm not giving up. I'll try something different, because I'm so excited about my baby. The night before we left AZ, we went over to our neighbor Carol's, to slice a baby off of her cactus. Another neighbor, Sue, got a baby too. I put mine in a pot of dirt, and put it in the RV shower, to travel along with us, so I could water it once a week. A couple days later, I noticed it was growing two knobs. I eventually knocked one off. This is what it looked like.

In one week, the baby bloomed!!!
Wow!! I'll bet Sue's didn't do this!

Awesome!

WOMEN AND SPIRIT

One of the reasons we wanted to get to Dubuque first, was to go to the River Museum and see the traveling exhibit about the nuns in America.

The whole exhibit was very interesting, but we were especially interested in the part about my cousin, Mother Alfred Moes (my maiden name). This is her part. That's her in the small picture.
This tells about her. We can thank her for St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester and the beginning of the Mayo Clinic.

It was very nice to see the sisters get recognized for all their accomplishments, especially the nurses and teachers. This is just a small part of the exhibit.

MORE IN DUBUQUE

I've had a horrible week with the blog. Blogger was being fixed for several days, and when it returned, I had problems. I've never been a patient person, and as I age, I get worse. Don would confirm that! Anyway, here is the rest of the last blog entry-more of John's garden.

HEADING TO IOWA

We left on Wednesday. and arrived on Mothers Day, without hazards or problems. I didn't take many pictures along the way. A lot of it looked like this.

We enjoyed the chilies in Hatch, New Mexico.

It's spring in Dubuque, with the lilacs and red bud trees blooming-and lush green grass. One of the new things in town next to the Museum of Art, is a replica of the Grant Wood couple.

We've spent time with relatives. Monday night, Don's cousin was in town, so several of us went to eat with her. From the right, (counter clockwise), Don's sister Kathy (who some of you met), his sister Teresa, cousin Pam, brother Marvin, fiance Jodie and her daughter Megan, Don , sister-in-law Pat and his brother Jerry, and his mother.

His sister Barb couldn't make it, but we did see her on Mother's Day at Grandma's. Since Brother John was working late we stopped to see him-sorry John-I got pictures of your gardens, but not of you. (Thanks again for helping us fix the drawer.)

These will be pretty all summer long.

WALKING IN THE PARK

On a morning walk before we left, we found a few things to share, such as this flowering cactus.

The flowers are quite pretty close-up.

One lady has very pretty flowers.

I wonder what this one will look like when the flowers open.

Here's another one blooming.

The saguaro at the office has a dove's nest in it.

Here's a close-up.

Those are buds at the other end. We're going to have a "whimsical" garden, so we have metal kites and a wreath of flowers on the shed. We'll see if we can find a few more things on the trip north.

When we get back, I'll take a close-up.
