DON'S 70TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

It was a month late to have his party, but the weather was much better. We just had a happy get together for about 40 for appetizers and birthday cake. It turned out nice, even though it was in the middle of the shed construction. We were also glad to see Kathy and Jerry, Don's sister and brother-in-law who winter in Surprise, AZ, a suburb of Phoenix, before they left for Iowa. Thanks to all for coming! Don thought it made turning the big 70 a little easier to handle.

SAN TAN FLATS

We finally got a few of the neighbors up to San Tan Flats for dinner at the "cowboy" restaurant. Al Hanson's tried out a saddle. Marilyn and Don roasted the marshmallows for s'mores. We had a good time.

ADIOS AMIGOS PARTY

Man can not live on work alone (?), so we took time off for the parks annual going away party. There was a free meal served inside and out to a great majority of the 1500 people. There was dancing. And water balloon tosses. Then it got a little wild when they pulled out the big water guns-we left and got back to work.

BEGINNING THE SHED

Willie and Don started the shed by drilling into the concrete and anchoring the plate. Doesn't that sound impressive? On the second day, our Canadian neighbor next door, Wayne, joined in, and the walls appeared. And suddenly, there were four.

AWNING AND SKIRTING

The construction continued with one man working alone, but swiftly putting up the awning. By the end of the day, he was done.

The next day, he was done with the skirting by noon.

VISITORS

On Tuesday, we were waiting for the awning installer, and we had visitors arrive at the same time he came. Al and Shirley Ludeking and Karen and Willie Brown brought Cal and Betty Anderson from Decorah to see our park model. Always acting as a lawyer and inquisitive person, Cal had many questions for us. It was nice to see them. They even posed for blog material!

WOODEN VALENCES

On Monday, we had a problem with the wood valences that we ordered. They weren't the right size. Here the guys are mulling over the problem.

With the help of a good woman who shall remain nameless, we figured it all out and when they get the right size with the corners mitered, they'll be back to install them. As you can see, they'll look better.

On Monday, we also got our TV's hooked up. It should have been done on Saturday, but the guy was driving all around South Dakota looking for us. I guess you have to have a few mix-ups.
