RAPID CITY, SD PRESIDENTS

In downtown Rapid City, they have statues of our presidents on their corners. Here are a few examples-President Carter.

President Reagan.

President Washington.

President Jefferson.

You can even read the Declaration of Independence that he's holding.

They have a nice visitors center with information about the presidents.

CUSTER BUFFALO

The little town of Custer tries to get everybody in the mood of the area by putting buffalos on their corners downtown. Here are a couple.

They even have one full of motorcycles-getting ready for Sturgis.

DINER IN HILL CITY

I probably wouldn't suggest you eat at this diner, but thought the inside was neat. The girls wore poodle skirts.

Marilyn was cute.

Notice the pictures light up.

I did see pizza that looked good, but my hamburger had no flavor. There were quite a few people in there, somaybe mine was a fluke.

SPEARFISH CANYON

We missed Spearfish Canyon the other day because of the fog, so we tried it again today. There were daisies along the road for miles.

The rock formations along this canyon were neat also.

The first of three water falls was a little difficult to find and part of the path wasfull of tree roots so you had to be careful. Here Don's on the way to the path.

It was worth it to see Spearfish Falls.

We also got to see this along the way.

The Roughlock Falls was easier to get to.

The Bridal Veil Falls was right along the road.

This was another pretty area!

MORE NEEDLES HIGHWAY

It's very hard to choose from the many, many pictures I took of the rock formations in this area,
but here are a few.

Another tunnel-can we make it through?
Along the way were these pretty flowers.
At the end of the highway, you find Sylvan Lake.
It's a beautiful area!

NEEDLES HIGHWAY IN PARK

The next morning we took a ride on the Needles highway in Custer State Park, which is full of beautiful scenery.

When I looked closer at the rock above, I could see a rock climber close to the top.

He made it!

And now he's repelling down the side.

To some like our son Russ, who used to teach repelling to the Boy Scouts, I'm sure it looks like fun-chicken that I am, I'd rather just watch.

ANIMAL LOOP IN CUSTER STATE PARK

We took the animal loop in Custer State Park at dusk because it's a prime time to see animals. It proved to be productive. The first animals we saw were two large elk. They were moving, so a picture was difficult.

Our second herd of buffalo for the day. This is just a snippet-there were several hundred.

Throughout the loop we saw a wild turkey, 6 button buck deer, 17 white tail deer, 6 antelope and 26 pronghorns.

And, just for Mulert, one more big herd! Ain't they just gorgeous! He was in buffalo Heaven!
They even got up close and personal!
