VIEW FROM THE GRAVE

It's very understandable to see why he chose to be buried in such a beautiful place, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The views are incedible and have changed over the years as Denver has grown, but some areas remain the same.

Now you see the suburbs down below and Denver proper in the distance.
You also can see Coors Brewery in Golden. (It doesn't get any better than this!)

BUFFALO BILL'S GRAVE

Near the museum, at the top of Lookout Mountain, is his choice for his grave. Factions have been fighting for years over where he should be buried-I can see why he picked this place. Here's a view from the back.

One of the plaques.

From the front.

SIGHTSEEING IN DENVER

Oh boy! I'm way behind again-sightseeing every day is great, but impossible to keep the blog up to date. I'm still doing Denver, but we've moved on to the Black Hills in South Dakota and, in fact, will be leaving tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get caught up then. This is what happens when you're seeing so much beauty and having so much fun! Anyway, we sneaked back from Brighton into Denver and did some sightseeing while our friends were busy helping their son move. First we visited Buffalo Bill's Grave and Museum.

There were many nice exhibits about his life, his traveling show etc. I didn't realize he was the
recipient of a Medal of Honor.

Here's a picture of Sitting Bull. (just for Kathy Fitz!)

It was interesting to me that 25,000 prominent people in Denver went to his funeral, and the Masons were in charge of his burial service. In the research I just found, one of my relatives was a leader in the Masons, and one of the richest men in Denver. He was a contracter that built large buildings such as the Episcopal Cathedral and the old Denver Club. I wonder if he was there.
He must have been a very interesting man. He fought the Indians and then befriended them. After being a Mason for years, he asked for a priest as he was dying, because he wanted to die as a Catholic. (He seemed to change his mind more than a woman!)

GOING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN

In the Eagle River that ran behind the campground also, we saw a fisherman and his dog.

If you look up high, there's another man having fun.

Passing the ski trails.

Through the seemingly never ending Johnson Tunnel.

We spotted several rafters along the way.

Finally we're entered the foothills of Denver.

LEAVING THE CAMPGROUND

We went back to the campground after the game.

As we finished preparations to leave (it's called dumping), the kids returned and prepared to have a fun day at an amusement park. They'll be on vacation until Sunday when they leave Jake and Dan at the University of Denver, (my mother's alma mater!), for a LaCrosse camp for several days, and they'll ride home with another family. The rest of them will get home in Omaha on Monday.

As we left, Grandpa had a little fun with the air horn!

FIFTH PLACE

Big Red won again and ended up 5th out of 18 in their division. Dan played and only had one penalty. Jake had one too and that has to be some kind of record for the Mulert boys, as they usually are pretty aggressive.

Jake played a lot and did all the faceoffs with a 23 win 8 losses. He fought hard and so did the team. Congratulations to all of them! In this picture the ball by Jake's foot was picked up by his team.

They took pictures of the team and added the parents.

Thanks to Russ and Carrie and kids for letting us join in their fun!!!

HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY

We ended the day with cake and ice cream for Joe.
Nothing makes a guy happier than chocolate!
